As Europe’s leading consulting, planning and project management enterprise, Drees & Sommer has supported private and public clients and investors for over 50 years in all aspects of real estate and infrastructure – both analog and digital. Through future-oriented consulting, the real estate consulting company offers solutions for successful buildings, high-return portfolios, powerful infrastructure and livable cities. The company’s 3,820 employees across 46 locations around the world work in interdisciplinary teams to provide support for clients from a wide variety of sectors. All the services provided by the partner-run company take into consideration both economic and ecological concerns. Drees & Sommer calls this holistic approach ‘the blue way’.

Sustainability

'the blue way'

At Drees & Sommer, we think and act sustainably and holistically. In doing so, we take all facets of sustainability into account. Economy, ecology and functionality are inseparable for us. We call this basic principle the ‘the blue way’. It pervades our entire company – internally and externally.

Drees & Sommer is one of the founding members of DGNB

The DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) was founded in Stuttgart in 2007. The aim was to promote sustainable building and to establish a certification system – the German Sustainable Building Certificate. The DGNB certificate recognizes buildings that are particularly environmentally friendly, resource-efficient, economically efficient and optimized for user amenity – typical requirements of ‘the blue way’. That is why it was essential for Drees & Sommer to help shape the DGNB as a founding member.

Drees & Sommer is becoming a Beneficial Company

Our long-term aim is to become a “Beneficial Company” which in addition to its entrepreneurial success, also creates the greatest possible benefit for the environment and society. In this regard, we make long-lasting positive contributions to the environment and society while bringing about maximum benefit in these areas.

Cradle to Cradle design principles

Drees & Sommer and the former EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH joined forces in January 2019 after five years of close partnership advising clients and investors. The objective of the collaboration under the name of EPEA GmbH – Part of Drees & Sommer is to establish Cradle to Cradle® design principles for the circular economy in all sectors of industry. EPEA’s materials expertise forms the basis for optimizing products from the molecular to the modular level. This is attractive not only from an ecological but also from an economic point of view.
